Well, it's been a couple of weeks, and Rachel has all sorts of new tricks up her sleeve. She's moved past her feet, and is now grabbing everything within reach. One of her favorite toys is the slinky that hangs down from the ceiling over her changing table. Every time we sit her up on the table she likes to reach for it. We don't let her grab it, though -- it has things that shouldn't go in the mouth.
That's right. She has enough control now to take everything that she grabs and stuff it into her mouth. Most of her soft toys have gotten plenty wet from spending time in there, and we'll often catch her sucking on rattles and things while we're in the car.
Speaking of which, she's almost outgrown her car seat already. She's not too heavy for the car seat; rather, she's getting too long. She recently measured in at 26 1/2 inches, 1/2 an inch longer than the spec on the seat. We'll be getting a convertible car seat soon, courtesy of her uncle Tom (Thanks, Tom!)
What else can Rachel do these days? She's gotten quite active on her tummy. She can rotate in a complete circle, and we've seen her scooch (it's not quite a crawl yet) as far as a foot forwards and sideways. One of her favorite tricks lately is to grab the blanket she's lying on, roll over, and pull it over her head (picture forthcoming). We've played some great peek-a-boo games this way, and sometimes she'll fuss if the blanket is not covering her head.
Finally, we think that Rachel is ready for solid foods! She's been eyeing us at dinner with great fascination for about a month now, so we think she's more than ready. We're going to start her on rice cereal this weekend, and see how it goes.
That's about it for now. You can count on these postings getting more frequent, and please feel free to respond with your comments!
