In the past month or so, Rachel has amazed us by acquiring new words almost daily. Some recent words she uses now: bye, grandma, Pa Pa Paul, spin, zoo, and Elmo. We had no idea she knew who Elmo was until she spotted an Elmo Halloween costume in the store and blurted out “Elmo!”. We don’t have any Elmo products at home, but they apparently do at school! She has also found letters and numbers very interesting lately and has been practicing with a letter board. She knows most of her letters and the numbers 1 and 2. Grandma Susan took her to the zoo this week and taught Rachel how to read the word “ZOO”.
Rachel has been doing somersaults for a few months, but on the Friday before Labor day weekend, she started doing “no arms” somersaults! She tucks her arms into her sides and launches herself headfirst into a somersault. She is very proud of this new skill and likes to show it off, along with her jumping. She is also taking to jumping off of stuff – like steps and step stools. There haven’t been any significant boo-boos from this yet, but that’s sure to come with the territory.
