A Seminal Moment

Rachel officially reached the age of two this last week. Not numerologically, of course, but in spirit. While we've had her sleeping in a "big bed" for a couple of months now, this last week was the first time she realized that she had the power to get out of bed after we'd put her down and come back outside. The first (and so far only) time she did this I got to see her bound out of her room with such pride and enthusiasm that I had to bite my lip, hard, to prevent myself from laughing out loud. Ever the Draconian parent, I ordered Rachel right back to bed. She complied under great protest, but hasn't tried that again since. Still, she had that one, brief moment of triumph when she realized she was no longer confined to a crib.
